Zephyr – 1661 Davie Street

There are already two rental residential towers recently completed on the 1600 block of Davie, one to the north, and one across the street. Now Westbank have just finished two more towers located on top of a redeveloped Safeway store. The project was first seen exactly five years ago, and wasn’t rezoned, so it was built reasonably quickly.

This is Westbank’s third rental project in the West End, and as with the other two, it’s designed by Henriquez Partners Architects. The Safeway has been replaced with a larger store, and there are 319 rental apartments, including 86 2-bedroom and 18 3-bedroom units. Tenants can join the Zephyr Cycling Club with 20 custom designed electric bikes and there are also Modo car share vehicles in the building.

The balconies (seen left) have a fritted pattern, and curved glass on the corners. There are a series of large panels across the store facade that have led colour changing elements designed by Vancouver artist Neil Campbell.
